Today, I gave my first speech after being announced as Reform UK’s Shadow Chancellor.

In the City of London, I set out Reform UK’s plan to cut wasteful spending and get Britain’s economy working again.

Reform UK Announcement

This is our plan:

1. Cut wasteful spending. End welfare for migrants, foreign aid for rich countries, and hotels for illegal migrants.

2. Cut the exploding benefits bill. We’ll always protect the vulnerable and those who’ve worked and paid in. But there’s too many spurious claims. We’ll restore the two child benefit cap.

3. By cutting waste, we’ll be able to cut taxes. But we’ll do it responsibly. The Office for Budget Responsibility needs major reform — but we’ll retain it. We’re happy with our homework being marked.

4. We’ll back our businesses, particularly small ones, by cutting the stupid paperwork strangling them.

5. We’ll get Britain building again, by densifying our major cities and accelerating major infrastructure like Heathrow’s 3rd runway.

6. We’ll end Ed Miliband’s mad energy plan and deliver cheap and reliable energy for families and businesses. We’ll end the ban on drilling our North Sea oil and gas and build more nuclear.

7. Ensure all migrants are long-term net contributors to the economy and incentivise investors to return to the UK.

8. Champion free trade with our allies, while robustly supporting strategic industries like steel and defence to protect jobs.

9. Introduce smarter Al regulations to ensure Britain’s service sector can succeed.

Reform UK Announcement

I know times are tough right now, and things seem to only be getting worse under Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves.

A common sense Government that puts the British people first can turn our country around.

And that’s exactly what Nigel Farage and Reform will do.

Regards,

Robert Jenrick
